SULAIMANIYAH, March 29 Kurdish Policy Analysis— Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani has called for greater political consultation ahead of a planned parliamentary session to elect Iraq’s next president, warning that rushed or imposed decisions risk deepening divisions at a sensitive moment.

In a letter dated March 28 and addressed to leaders of Iraq’s Shi’ite Coordination Framework, Barzani said the push to convene parliament for a presidential vote “requires further consultation,” stressing the need to respect the political weight of all components in the system based on their electoral representation.

“Attempts to push things forward or impose them will lead to counterproductive results and deeper divisions, which the country does not need at this delicate and sensitive stage,” the letter said.
